Bats are nocturnal flying mammals that sound as unique as they look and behave! Many of the sounds that bats make, such as those used for echo location, are above the pitch that humans can hear. However, bats also make many other sounds, such as squeaks, chirps, and clicks. Bats typically sleep in caves or other dark areas, but as the night time descends, they leave their homes to spend the cool, dark hours of night hunting for fruit, insects, or other sources of food. When bats are flying nearby, you can often hear them whooshing through the air, fluttering their wings, or making squeaks, chirps, or clicks to communicate.
The sounds that bats make are very unique. They have their own soundscape, which is why bats are able to communicate with each other using various sounds.
